Marfa, Texas
April 25–April 28, 2017

The name itself evokes images that seem far away from the modern world, a laid-back place to get away from the busy life, a place with none of the things that complicate life. There is an endless expanse of blue sky, stunning views into the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico and the Chinati mountains of Texas, and the remarkable stucco and white washed architecture of the town. Marfa is also the home of the internationally known contemporary art museum founded by minimalist artist Donald Judd, the Chinati Foundation. If you want to experience this extraordinary place, join us for a four day, three night trip that includes a visit to Fort Davis, star party at McDonald Observatory, Marfa Prada, art galleries and studios, sophisticated restaurants, and the mysterious Marfa Lights.

All inclusive tour price is $1095 per person. (Single supplement is $300.) This fee includes accommodations based on double occupancy, breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily; transportation by luxury motor coach; gratuities for guides and bus drivers; all sightseeing and admission charges; service charges, and taxes.

Invented Worlds of Valton Tyler

Special Exhibition Tour

Meet at the special exhibition entrance for a guided tour of Invented Worlds of Valton Tyler. For more than forty years, Texas artist Valton Tyler (b. 1944) has depicted unparalleled worlds from his imagination. His captivating artworks feature unique interplays of identifiable, organic, mechanistic, and surreal shapes, which often rise from mountain, desert, or arctic landscapes. One of the only etching series he ever created, along with graphite drawings and large-scale paintings, are brought together for the first time in this rare exhibition of a local talent whose work defies artistic categorization.

Finding Valton Tyler

Gallery Talk

Kevin Vogel, president of Valley House Gallery & Sculpture Garden and Fine Art Estate, will present a gallery talk in conjunction with the exhibition Invented Worlds of Valton Tyler. Vogel will talk about the Texas artist’s life and work, the museum’s limited-edition book on the exhibition, and the fascinating story of how the Vogel family nurtured Tyler and his art, saving both from obscurity.

This program on American art, culture, and society is made possible by a generous gift from the late Anne Burnett Tandy.
