Event Description
No talking. No food and drinks. No experiments.
In January, learn all about Georgia O’Keeffe and the interesting things we’ve discovered about her technique through the conservation of her delicate artworks.
Schedule
5–6 p.m.
Listen to a happy-hour performance by local Americana/Folk singer-songwriter Jakob Robertson.
Join the Carter’s Head of Conservation Jodie Utter for a tour of select works that highlights the Carter’s efforts in caring for and preserving the collection for years to come.
5–8 p.m.
Enjoy drinks for purchase, including a specialty floral cocktail. Carter members get one complimentary drink! Lite bites are available for purchase at the Carter’s Food Cart.
Go on an artistic journey through Georgia O’Keeffe’s process with Carter Community Artist Brenda Melgoza Ciardiello. Inspired by Red Cannas, we’ll capture images of flowers and then create watercolors of joyful, floral abstraction. Supplies limited to the first 200 people.
Explore O’Keeffe’s life and work through a dynamic timeline featuring materials from the Archives and Library, from rare books to personal documents.
6–7:30 p.m.
Join Gwen Manthey, a conservator of paintings, as she shares some of the remarkable discoveries she has made about O’Keeffe’s practice while conserving Red Cannas. An audience Q&A will follow her presentation. Seating for the talk will be first come, first served for the first 160 people.
American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request. Please send us an email for more information.
