Event Description

Join Gwen Manthey, a conservator of paintings, as she shares some of the remarkable discoveries she has made about O’Keeffe’s practice while conserving Red Cannas. An audience Q&A will follow her presentation. Seating for the talk will be first come, first served for the first 160 people.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be provided during the conversation.

About Gwen Manthey

Gwen Manthey is a conservator of paintings currently focused on private practice in Washington, D.C. A Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation, she can be found via Manthey Fine Art Conservation, LLC. Prior professional experiences include Paintings Conservator at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, as well as positions at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Chrysler Gallery of Art, the Walters Art Museum, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Focusing on intensive and practical structural and aesthetic treatments, Manthey was one of two American conservators invited to attend the Getty-funded Conserving Canvas-Treatment of Canvas Paintings Supports: Current Practices, co-hosted by the Royal Danish Academy and the University Politècnica de València in 2023.
