Event Description

Explore botany, geology, and biology in the Carter’s collection and special exhibitions during this sensory-friendly event for neurodivergent adults. Learn from nature experts, create artwork to take home with you, and share your interests with new friends in the galleries as we look at sculptures and landscapes together.

Schedule

  • Meet with the Botanical Research Institute of Texas Herbarium and learn from their tactile teaching collection of botanical specimens.
  • Explore books, maps, prints, and other resources about geology, wildlife, and botany from the Carter’s Library and Archives. Look on your own, or chat with a librarian or archivist at 6, 6:30, or 7 p.m.
  • Create a textured landscape drawing by making rubbings using drawing materials, rocks, faux flowers and grasses, and faux fossils.
  • Visit sensory stations in the galleries and learn about flowers, bees, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Richard Avedon by using your senses of sight, touch, and smell.
  • Learn about Museum rules and parking on our Plan Your Visit page.

While the needs of neurodivergent adults are the focus of this drop-in event, it is also fun for family and friends of all abilities.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request. Please send us an email for more information.
