Event Description

No talking. No food and drinks. No new ideas.

Come break the rules and say “yes!” to new art experiences at the Carter’s Second Thursdays! Each month you’ll find something different than the last—mingle with fellow art lovers, make art, and meet visiting artists, sometimes with live music and always with themed cocktails inspired by the Carter’s collection.

In September, discover the exhibition East of the Pacific: Making Histories of Asian American Art and learn about these visionary artists’ influence on American art.

Schedule

5–8 p.m.

Enjoy drinks for purchase, including a specialty cocktail. Carter members get one complimentary drink! Lite bites are available for purchase at the Carter’s Food Cart.

Explore how migration shapes our identities and create a map showing personal milestones with Carter Community Artist Anna Pham. Supplies limited to the first 200 people.

6–6:45 p.m.

Explore the East of the Pacific exhibition with Carter Community Artist Dan Jian and discover which artworks resonate with her and her artistic practice. Dan Jian is a visual artist who works across painting, drawing, and animation. Originally from the mountain region of Hubei, China, Jian is an assistant professor of art at Texas Christian University while maintaining an ongoing studio practice.

6–7:30 p.m.

Join Aleesa Pitchamarn Alexander, PhD, the Halperin Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art and Co-Director of the Asian American Art Initiative at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University, for a talk about her experience creating the exhibition and how she selected the artworks to tell a story of Asian American art history. Following her presentation will be an audience Q&A. Seating for the talk will be first come, first served for the first 160 people.

7–7:45 p.m.

Explore the East of the Pacific exhibition with artist Christina Hahn and discover which artworks resonate with her and her artistic practice. Christina J. Hahn was raised in Seoul, South Korea and is a multidisciplinary artist, independent curator, and founder of the Dallas Asian American Art Collective. Hahn serves as the Creative Director of the Dallas Asian American Historical Society and a member of the DFW Airport Art Advisory Panel.
