Event Description

No talking. No food and drinks. No paint.

Come break the rules and say “yes!” to new art experiences at the Carter’s Second Thursdays! Each month you’ll find something different than the last—mingle with fellow art lovers, make art, and meet visiting artists, sometimes with live music and always with themed cocktails inspired by the Carter’s collection.

This month, experiment with a variety of printmaking techniques inspired by the creative explorations of two artists on view: Rufino Tamayo and Richard Hunt.

Schedule

5–8 p.m.

Enjoy drinks for purchase, including a selection of specialty local beers. Carter members get one complimentary drink! Lite bites are available for purchase at the Carter’s Food Cart.

Make a block print inspired by the Mesoamerican sculptures featured in the Tamayo exhibition with Carter Community Artist Sarah Ayala. Supplies limited to the first 200 people.

Create a print inspired by organic forms seen in Hunt’s and Tamayo’s work with Carter Community Artist Anna Joy Pham. Supplies limited to the first 200 people.

Be inspired by Tamayo’s works and create your own zine (a self-published, short magazine) with Carter Community Artist Raul Rodriguez. Supplies limited to the first 200 people.

Check out the printmaking and zine installation featuring items from our Library and Archives on view for one night only.

6–6:45 p.m.

Go on a tour with Carter curator Shirley Reece-Hughes to learn more about the exhibition Richard Hunt: From Paper to Metal and how experimenting with printmaking influenced Hunt’s sculpting process.
