Event Description

No talking. No food and drinks. No myths.

Come break the rules and say “yes!” to new art experiences at the Carter’s Second Thursdays! Each month you’ll find something different than the last—mingle with fellow art lovers, make art, and meet visiting artists, sometimes with live music, and always with themed cocktails inspired by the Carter’s collection.

In April, explore new interpretations and stories of the American West for a night focused on the exhibition New Horizons: The Western Landscape.

Schedule

5-6 p.m.

Listen to a live happy-hour performance by musician Andrew Skates. Skates is a highly regarded lead guitarist known for his traditional country and jazz stylings.

Join Fort Worth artist Sarah Ayala for a special tour of New Horizons: The Western Landscape. Ayala, whose work is featured in the exhibition, will share insights into the themes of landscape, storytelling, and place.

5-8 p.m.

Enjoy drinks for purchase, including a specialty cocktail and mocktail. Carter members get one complimentary drink! Lite bites are available for purchase at the Carter’s Food Cart.

Join Carter Community Artist Adam Fung on the porch to create watercolor skies inspired by the western horizon while responding to prompts that reflect on what the future might hold. This activity blends landscape painting with mindful reflection, resulting in a personal message that will be mailed back to participants next year. Supplies limited to the first 200 people.

6-7:30 p.m.

Join Dev’n Goodman and Fort Worth artist Ariel Davis for a conversation inspired by the exhibition New Horizons: The Western Landscape. Goodman, founder of the community conversation series D’Good Talks, will speak with Davis about landscape as a source of artistic inspiration, memory, and meaning, as well as the ways personal histories and everyday objects connect to the broader rhythms of the natural world. Following their discussion will be an audience Q&A. Seating for the talk will be first come, first served for the first 160 people.

7-8 p.m.

Join world champion Instructor Tony New on the dance floor! Tony will be teaching two easy and fun country line dances that you can show off at the next honkytonk.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request. Please send us an email for more information.
