Event Description

Join us every second Thursday to connect with art through cocktails, conversations, and creativity. This month, discover how contemporary artists find inspiration in Emancipation: The Unfinished Project of Liberation.

Schedule

5–8 p.m.

Enjoy drinks in the Atrium. Carter members get one complimentary drink! Shareable charcuterie boards and other lite bites are available for purchase at the Carter’s Food Cart.

Check out the Art Cart for a hands-on activity designed to help you get to know more about the sculpture The Freedman and how it was made.

Write your own redacted poems inspired by Sadie Barnette. Led by Carter Community Artist Dr. Mary Nangah. Supplies limited to the first 200 people.

5–6 p.m.

Andrew Walker will not be leading a tour of Emancipation due to a change in his schedule. Thank you for your understanding. Spend this hour touring the exhibition on your own and then grab a cocktail in the Atrium!

6–7 p.m.

Listen to Brandi Waller-Pace, a Fort Worth-based musician, educator, and founder and organizer of the Fort Worth African American Roots Music Festival. She’ll perform various songs that connect with the themes of the exhibition.

7–8 p.m.

Join Maggie Adler, the Carter’s Curator of Paintings, Sculpture, and Works on Paper, on a tour of the Emancipation exhibition.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request.
