Event Description
No talking. No food and drinks. No music
Come break the rules and say “yes!” to new art experiences at the Carter’s Second Thursdays! Each month you’ll find something different than the last—mingle with fellow art lovers, make art, and meet visiting artists, sometimes with live music and always with themed cocktails inspired by the Carter’s collection.
In July, learn all about legendary Fort Worth artists Scott and Stuart Gentling and their fascination with classical music.
Schedule
5–5:45 p.m.
Join Gentling Curator and Head Archivist Jon Frembling to learn more about the Gentling brothers and their interest in music.
5–8 p.m.
Sketch Enlightenment-themed still lifes while you listen to Emily Burak's lively performance on electric violin, featuring a blend of classical and favorite contemporary tunes.
Get a personalized silhouette portrait cut right before your eyes with Silhouettes by Suzette and Silhouettes by Virginia. Each silhouette is cut live with a seated guest and takes only a few minutes! Very limited availability. Timed tickets will be distributed at 5 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m.
Enjoy drinks for purchase, including a specialty Elderflower Moscow Mule cocktail. Carter members get one complimentary drink! Lite bites are available for purchase at the Carter’s Food Cart.
Design a Bass Hall-inspired dome motif inspired by Scott and Stuart Gentling's [Bass Hall mural motifs] with Carter Community Artist Kristin Boyer. Supplies limited to the first 200 people.
5:30–7:30 p.m.
Fall in love with the Enlightenment era just like the Gentlings by watching Marie Antoinette (2006), a historical drama written and directed by Sophia Coppola. The film is a coming-of-age story of Marie Antoinette (Kirsten Dunst) set in the years leading to the French Revolution. The movie is known for its modern and unconventional soundtrack, elaborate costumes, and for filming in the Palace of Versailles. Rated PG-13.
6–6:45 p.m.
Go on a tour of Classically Trained: The Gentlings and Music with Gentling Fellow Stuart Cheney. Cheney is the division chair of musicology at Texas Christian University with a focus on French music from 1500 to 1800 and Baroque music.
7–7:45 p.m.
Explore the Classically Trained exhibition through a fashion lens with Annette Becker, an arts educator and dress historian. She serves as the director of the Texas Fashion Collection, an archive of nearly 20,000 historic and designer garments and accessories housed within the University of North Texas College of Visual Arts and Design.
