Event Description

Join Joan Wyatt and Andrew Schoelkopf for a conversation with Carter curator Shirley Reece-Hughes. Together, they will talk about collecting American art professionally and personally, how to get started collecting art, and works in the exhibition American Modernism from the Charles Butt Collection. Following the conversation will be an audience Q&A. Seating for the talk will be first come, first served for the first 160 people.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be provided during the conversation.

About Joan Wyatt

Joan Wyatt graduated with a degree in Art History from Sweet Briar College in Virginia. She was the registrar at Richard York Gallery located in NYC in the mid-1980s. In 2002, and much to her delight, she found her way back to the art world through her work collaborating with Charles Butt and managing and curating his collection. In addition, she has worked with him on numerous special initiatives, including the art program at the Holdsworth Center in Austin and various design projects. Wyatt is civically engaged in San Antonio and is married to Richey Wyatt. They have two adult sons, Henry and Taylor.

About Andrew Schoelkopf

Andrew Schoelkopf is the owner of Schoelkopf Gallery. He founded the firm (then Menconi + Schoelkopf) in 2001 and has since led the business to become a leader in the field of American art and a trusted advisor to the nation’s preeminent museums and private collectors. Schoelkopf previously spent 10 years at Christie’s in varying roles including senior vice president and director of the American paintings department, director of business development for North and South America, and president of Christie’s Internet Auctions. During his time there he also served on Christie’s business development, management, and operating committees. Schoelkopf and his wife, Grace, have two grown children and live in Greenwich, Connecticut.
