Photobooks as a medium allow artists to present their work in ways that differ from framed art hanging on a gallery wall or presented in a traditional catalogue. They are works of art in and of themselves. Since its founding, the Carter Library has collected photobooks by American artists. In fall 2023, this focus expanded with the launch of the Texas Photobook Collection, dedicated to Texas-based artists and publishers working at the intersection of photography and publishing.

Texas Photobook Collection: The First Two Years showcases the breadth and scope of contemporary and historical photographers engaged with the book as a medium. The exhibition features artists with roots in Fort Worth, including Diane Durant, Delilah Montoya, and Raul Rodriguez.
