Emancipation: The Unfinished Project of Liberation begins with the Carter's cast of John Quincy Adams Ward’s Civil War-era bronze sculpture, The Freedman (1863). The exhibition then moves on to the work of seven contemporary Black artists whose contributions are connected to themes of freedom or imprisonment, the long legacy of the Civil War in the United States, body, and personhood.

Free for Carter members, $5 for additional nonmember guests. RSVP by email or call 817.989.5060.
