Event Description

Join us every second Thursday to connect with art through cocktails, conversations, and creativity. This month, get inspired by photographers Christina Fernandez and Richard Avedon and learn more about the subjects of their portraits.

Schedule

5–8 p.m.

Enjoy drinks in the Atrium. Carter members get one complimentary drink! Lite bites are available for purchase at the Carter’s Food Cart.

Check out the Art Cart for a hands-on activity designed to help you learn about photography.

Ask an archivist all your questions about how best to store and protect your family’s important papers, historical documents, and treasured photos. Allee Austin, the Carter’s Associate Archivist and Records Manager, will have samples of what the Carter uses to store our archives, and she’ll provide advice and recommendations on what you can do to save your family’s history for generations to come.

Make your own artwork inspired by photographs on view. Led by Carter Community Artist Diane Durant. Supplies limited to the first 200 people.

6–7 p.m.

Join Kristen Gaylord, Associate Curator of Photographs at the Carter, on a tour of the exhibition Christina Fernandez: Multiple Exposures.

7–8 p.m.

Join Ted Forbes, a photographer and filmmaker, on a tour of the Richard Avedon photos on view throughout the Carter’s galleries. Forbes produces the YouTube channel The Art of Photography, which centers around photography education. It also includes his “Artist Series,” which is an ongoing project of short documentaries on photographers, including a film on Laura Wilson, who was Avedon’s assistant on his In the American West project for the Carter.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request.
