Event Description

No talking. No food and drinks. No jazz.

Come break the rules and say “yes!” to new art experiences at the Carter’s Second Thursdays! Each month you’ll find something different than the last—mingle with fellow art lovers, make art, and meet visiting artists, sometimes with live music and always with themed cocktails inspired by the Carter’s collection.

This month, we’re celebrating the holiday season with a night of smooth sounds and Stuart Davis.

Schedule

5–6 p.m.

Enjoy a mix of jazzy holiday songs and jazz standards performed by Jeffrey Todd and his trio. Joining Todd for this happy-hour performance will be Sam Walker on guitar and Russ Allor on bass.

5–8 p.m.

Make your own paper snowflakes and enjoy drinks for purchase, including a specialty cranberry poinsettia cocktail. Carter members get one complimentary drink! Lite bites are available for purchase at the Carter’s Food Cart.

Create an abstract ornament inspired by Stuart Davis's rhythmic shapes in his abstract paintings. Be inspired by patterns reminiscent of jazz beats or add some holiday flair. Led by Carter Community Artist Kelsha Reese. Supplies limited to the first 200 people.

6–7 p.m.

Go on a tour with Carter curator Shirley Reece-Hughes to learn more about artist Stuart Davis and how jazz music inspired his mid-century painting style.

6:30–7:30 p.m.

Listen to Stockton Helbing and his quartet as they swing you into the holiday season with classic jazz tunes. Whether you are a jazz aficionado or a jazz first-timer, you are guaranteed to have a good time.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request. Please send us an email for more information.
