Event Description

Join us as we read Abby Geni’s The Lightkeepers: A Novel (2016). Miranda, a nature photographer, travels to the Farallon Islands, an exotic and dangerous archipelago off the coast of California, for a one-year residency capturing the landscape. Her only companions are the scientists studying there, odd and quirky refugees from the mainland living in rustic conditions, and the overwhelming bird population. Shortly after Miranda’s arrival, she is assaulted by one of the inhabitants. A few days later, her assailant is found dead, perhaps the result of an accident, or perhaps not? John Rohrbach, Senior Curator of Photographs, will begin the evening with a tour of Eliot Porter’s Birds, which relates to many themes in the novel. After the tour, we will have a drink and discuss.
