Event Description

Join us as we read The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. Acclaimed by critics, beloved by readers of all ages, taught everywhere from inner-city grade schools to universities across the country, and translated all over the world, this book is a classic for a reason. Told in a series of vignettes—sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes deeply joyous—it is the story of a young Latina girl, Esperanza Cordero, growing up in Chicago, inventing for herself who and what she will become. Brenda Ciardiello, a Carter Community Artist, will share some insight on the exhibition ¡Printing the Revolution!: The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965 to Now and how the artworks connect to themes in the book.

Purchase The House on Mango Street in the Museum Shop.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request.
