Event Description

This fall, we’ll read Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Between the World and Me (2015). Written as a letter to the author’s teenage son about what it means to be black in modern America, Between the World and Me was a National Book Award winner for Nonfiction and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction. Christopher Blay, Carter Community Artist, writer, and curator, will begin the evening with a tour of the exhibition Gordon Parks: The New Tide, Early Work 1940–1950. After the tour, we'll enjoy a drink and discuss the themes of the book that connect to what Parks was addressing during the New Tide movement in the 1940s and ‘50s.
