Event Description

Join Dr. Opal Lee and artist Sedrick Huckaby at the Carter for the Fort Worth debut of Huckaby’s portrait of Lee. Learn more about the painting from Lee and Huckaby prior to the artwork leaving North Texas for its permanent home. Lee’s years of activism encouraged the government to establish Juneteenth as a federally recognized holiday in 2021 earning her the title of “Grandmother of Juneteenth.” The portrait will be on view exclusively at the Carter Friday, July 7 through Sunday, July 9.

Seating in the Museum Auditorium is limited and is available on a first-come first-served basis.
