    u.l. printed: Canyon Diablo is a gash in the level plain 540 \ feet wide and 222 feet deep and is crossed by a steel \ bridge 600 feet long. It has the appearance of a \ volcanic rent in the earth's crust. Through the \ notch at the bottom a thread of a stream trickles. \ The name is Spanish for Devil's Canyon.
