u.l. to c.r. in graphite: Dear Mary: \ A print of this always hung on Clara's wall \ along with the one of Gertrude Käsebill. \ After her death Phyllis found the negative \ and sent it to me to print. I purposely \ printed it showing the frayed edges of the \ emulsion. \ The picture always affected me greatly, knowing \ some of the background. The Russian general \ and his wife ealking down a snowy Vermont \ road in the evening, as Clara said she often \ saw them often they had come for a visit.
