Inscriptions Recto: u.l. to u.r. printed: 274 Rock of Ages and Cave of the Winds, Niagara Falls Verso [vertical]: u.l. to c.l. printed: Rock of Ages and Cave of the Winds, \ Niagara Falls. \ This view from the foot of Luna Falls \ gives a good idea of the chaotic masses \ of rock that are the debris of the preci- \ pice after it has been undermined by \ the erosive power of the water. Be- \ hind Luna Falls is situated the celebrat- \ ed Cave of the Winds. This vacant \ recess, 100 feet high and 60 feet in \ depth, is reached by means of a per-pendicular winding stairway from Goat \ Island. The cave derives its name from \ the constant pressure of the atmosphere, \ caused by reflex of the falling water, \ which resembles a storm of great vio- \ lence.
