    u.l. to c.: In the Plaza of Taos \\ Every house has a dome shaped oven outside, \ where all the baking is done. The Indians \ used to bake their food in holes dug in the \ ground. The Mexicans taught them to build \ their ovens with boughs plastered with clay. \ When the ovens are not in use, they are the \ favorite hiding spots of the innumerable \ Indian dogs. The outside ladders are the \ only means of access to the upper tiers \ of dwellings.
