Typed on attached paper:
u.l. to l.r.: The Painted Desert \\ Arizona is a state of fantastic landscapes: \ breathtaking chasms and strangely shaped \ rocks and mountains, [sic] But no where does one's \ sense of reality suffer such a severe shock \ as on the edge of the Painted Desert, when \ one sees for the first time this unbeliev- \ able natural phenomenon. Imagine a [sic] xxxxxxxxxxxxxx \ seeing below your feet a sea of rolling sand- \ dunes, which seem to pursue each other in \ endless rows, and imagine these hills to be \ colored with all the shades of the rainbow. \ Bright red, deep purple, reddish brown, \ bluish gray, light green and white, in strange, \ endless procession. Between the hills are \ "washes" - dried streams, and piles of what seem \ to be mounds of dark jewels - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx \ huge pieces of petrified wood.
