    u.l. to c.r. typed: OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES, 3 weeks before he \ died. \ I was in Washington making pictures of \ Harlan Stone. He asked me if I would like \ to make pictures of O-l-d- [crossed out in ink] Chief Justice Holmes. \ Naturally, I was very eager. He made the \ appointment and I went at once. Mr. Holmes \ was quite feeble. The only remark he made \ while I was making his picture was "This \ will be good for publicity". It was a \ long time before I understood it. He was, \ after all, 95 [corrected to 94 in graphite] years old. Later a friend \ said it was his wonderful humor. Someone \ else said that he was still going on
