    l.l. in graphite: 20.

l.c. typed on paper label: 20. On first looking down upon this area of columns the \ impression was one of the beauty of repetition. One \ must learn to analyze impressions and to determine how \ they can be interpreted into design. In the full light \ of mid-day these columns become isolated spots and one \ must imagine what the shadows could do if they were pre- \ sent. At sunrise the columns and their shadows unified \ this design and created an all over pattern which seemed \ to give the best impression of the colonade [sic].
