    u.c. in ink: I remember you telling of how you grew up. \ Taking wood from old buildings being torn down \ because your family was too poor to buy coal. \ Fighting because you had to because you were \ a Jew. Going to high school at night because \ the family needed you to work during the day. \ You wanted to be a lawyer, but were forced \ to drop your classes at Colombia [sic] to work two jobs.
