Description
Typed letter signed. Reports a day of horror with the bombing of Rabbi Nussbaum’s home by the Klan. Tells that Griffin received a letter from their friend Jacques Maritain who is tired, in pain, and wondering why God does not take him. Griffin says his own father was informed today of the death of his sister by the “endlessly cruel ‘Southern Griffins.’” They did not let him know until after the funeral and burial, still punishing Griffin’s father for the work of his son. Reports that before he wrote Black Like Me, they were a close family, but now they leave him [Griffin’s father] out of everything and “shun him for having hatched a son like me.” [Handwritten personal note at bottom of page]
