u.l. printed: Down by the river the walls are composed of black \ gneiss, slates and schists, traversed by dikes of \ granite. Then there are 800 feet of quartzites, then \ 500 feet of greenish sandstone, then 700 feet called \ alcove limestone, above which is 1600 feet of \ limestone, known as redwall limestone, then 800 \ feet of banded sandstone and at the top 1000 feet of Aubrey limestone. These are the elements with \ which the walls are constructed, from black buttress \ below to alabaster tower above.
l.l. in ink: Have seen the \ granite exactly this \ color.
