  • Description

Autograph letter signed. Wonders if gifts they have sent have been received. Asks about John [Dorr] in the nursing home and how Nell is doing. Tells of travels around Europe looking for a warm, inexpensive place to stay - spent Christmas in Positano, Italy, took the ferry to Taormina, Sicily, but Kurt began to break out and get flea bites from the dog. They were in Palermo over New Year’s Eve where the custom is to throw glass and pots and pans and other objects out their windows when the clock strikes twelve, as well as shouting, and setting off fireworks. They fled Sicily for Rome which they loved so they stayed a week, and then moved on to the Riviera, then to Spain which they describe as sunny and cheap, so they stayed three weeks. But they felt no ‘kinship” to Spain so they moved on to Austria which they loved so they decided to stay there.
