    u.c. handwritten in blue ink: This Indian shot and killed \ two settlers named DeLovre[?] \ near Pembina, N.D. in 1873. He \ escaped but was arrested in 1878. He \ broke jail at Pembina and killed \ a man named Johnson, robbing \ him of $1700 and his rifle. He escaped \ into Canada to Sitting Bull's Camp \ and stayed there till Sitting \ Bull surrendered in 1881, when \ he came in with the hostiles. He \ was again arrested; sent to Yankton, tried, found guilty \ and hanged.

    c. typed label: Brave was known as a desperado, and \ was hung at Yankton, Dakota, in 1883, for mur- \ der. His father says that when he was quite a \ boy he killed a white man, and that made his \ heart bad.
