Carter Outdoors

The outdoors is a perfect place to show off contemporary art, so we launched a series of artist projects on our campus in Spring 2022. This is what you can see and when:

Darryl Lauster: Testament

Through May 2023
Where: Side lawn (near the parking lot)

Darryl Lauster’s bronze obelisk, covered with disappearing fragments of this country’s founding documents and various other landmark texts, is an entrancing study on the passage of time and the temporal nature of all things.

An orange-hot glob of molten glass on the end of a punty.

Justin Ginsberg: Shaking the Shadow

June 11–September 25, 2022
Where: Plaza

Saturdays and Sundays this summer during Museum hours (weather permitting), watch glass artist Justin Ginsberg pull molten glass into long, thin threads—some as long as 25 feet! At the end of each weekend, Ginsburg will add the threads to a large-scale sculpture inside the Carter. Come back often to see how his sculpture takes shape.

Don’t forget, admission to the Carter is always FREE, but the experience is priceless! Plan your visit soon.
