The Carter collection is distinguished for its bronze sculpture, containing landmark works by  Richmond Barthé, Daniel Chester French, Gaston Lachaise, Paul Manship, Frederic Remington, Charles M. Russell, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, and John Quincy Adams Ward. It also features the innovation of artists who made art from unexpected or everyday materials, including work by Joseph Cornell, Robert Laurent, Elie Nadelman, Louise Nevelson, and Gabriel Dawe, whose site-specific installation Plexus no. 34 is installed in the Carter’s Atrium.
