Event Description

Join us as we read Richard Powers’ The Overstory: A Novel (2018). Winner of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for fiction, The Overstory is a sweeping, impassioned work of activism and resistance that is also a stunning evocation of the natural world. The novel weaves together the story of nine Americans whose unique life experiences with trees bring them together to address the destruction of forests. The story unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fables that range from antebellum New York to the late 20th-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Senior Curator of Photographs John Rohrbach will lead a tour via Zoom of the exhibition Mitch Epstein: Property Rights. After the tour, we will discuss the book.

You can purchase The Overstory in the Museum Shop.
