Description
Autograph letter signed. Reports that she is envisioning Dorr at Villa Serena. Says she is impatient to be in New York, but that Henry is more likely to find a publisher in Germany. Many relatives have visited them in Munich on their way to vacations in Italy and they complain about each other. Tells Dorr that she has heard from Walter about their friend Fay [?] Fletcher who was in and out of the hospital and then quickly died. The funeral was over quickly, without her friends being informed and then the phone was disconnected. Mentzel thinks Fletcher was surrounded by “strange” people. Mentzel also tells of meeting a young painter from the United States whose Fulbright scholarship was running out and he couldn’t paint anything. He got very nervous and depressed and she had tried to help him, but she got so depressed herself that she had to stay away from him. She says she would have been in the same state as this young man if she had not met Dorr.
