Reports visiting with Edith Scott who seems bitter as she gets older. Says Pete Smith is taking her to see Earnest. Expresses her hope that they will move their office to San Francisco, away from the “falseness of this place.” [Santa Monica? from the stationery letterhead]. Says this state could be sued for its ugliness, all curly-cues and neon lights. Tells John that she is thankful that he is a “worker in the field of life” and that he has an ‘honest beard” and a “grown-up soul.”
