Description
Typed letter signed. Reports returning from his investigation of the riots in San Francisco, Cedar Rapids, and northern Michigan. Says they would “curl your spine” so he won’t talk of them. His doctors warned him to get as much done as possible now, because he will be in a wheel chair for another long period following a graft. Appreciates the gift of a book to Gregory who is much better. Admires Chris’s photos in a brochure Dorr sent to Griffin and acknowledges the great gift she has given to Chris [and to Gregory]. Says a brief visit to the Discalced Carmelites (Sisters) in far northern Michigan has restored him after the heartbreak of the ghettos. Tells how relieved their friend Penn Jones is that events are proving him right and not the “kook” that many including “our vicious governor” [John Connally in 1967] have labeled him.
