u.c. [typed on paper label]: 469 - BETSY \ A noted character among the Omahas, an exponent \ of women's rights. Has always accompanied the tribe \ on their annual buffalo-hunts, and participates in the \ chase with the men. Speaks three Indian languages, \ besides French and English.

A noted Shaman or mysterious \ woman, an Indian doctor; member of several \ dancing societies; an amazon; "exponent of women's rights; "participated with the men \ in the chase" spoke French and English, be- \ sides several Indian languages; knew many \ legends and myths, some of which she dic- \ tated to J. Owen Dorsey.
