Engagement Policies

Museums are places where communities can come together to learn, to be inspired, to engage, to relax, and the Carter is no exception. Founded in 1961, part of the Carter’s mission is to “serve all communities through … experiences devoted to the celebration of American creativity.”

We strive to make sure everyone who visits the Carter feels welcome and we ask our visitors, both online and in person, to abide by our Engagement Polices. Whether you want to take a photo to remember your visit to our Museum or are following us on social media, we expect any engagement with us to be respectful of our collection, staff, and other visitors, in person or online.

The policies outlined on these pages cover Photo & Video Policy, Press Photography, and Social Media Engagement.

If you have any questions or concerns, please send us an email.

Visitor Photography

Art is meant to be shared! We encourage visitors to capture their visit and share on social media with #CarterArt, but we have a few rules to protect the art and to respect other visitors’ experiences. Read up on our Photo & Video Policy.

Press Photography

Members of the media must make arrangements for all photo and video shoots in advance, and must be escorted by a staff member at all times or have permission from Communications and Marketing to shoot independently. To schedule your visit, email the Communications and Marketing department or call 817.989.5065. Photo requests that cannot be staffed will be declined.

For photography related to special exhibitions or acquisitions and Terms of Use, visit our Press Images page.
