Classroom Connections: Art and Play in Pre-k

Educator Workshop

Discover ways to incorporate art and play into your Pre-k classroom during this special educator workshop at the Amon Carter. Carter Community Artist Lauren Cross, Green Space educator Beth Edwards, and museum educators will share activities, strategies, and lessons learned. Participants will receive CPE hours, lesson plans, and materials for the classroom. FREE—This program is made possible with support from The Morris Foundation. Space is limited; pre-registration is required.

Itty-Bitty Art: Sign Language

Young Toddler Program

Communicating with babies doesn’t have to be abstract! Bring your young toddler (12-24 months) to the Amon Carter for an art-filled experience. Founder and facilitator of Baby Sign-and-Speak, A. J. Bowman-Shelton, leads an age-appropriate sign language session inspired by the Amon Carter’s collection.

By using colors, shapes, and sculptures, learn fundamental signs and insights that will help facilitate a stronger bond between you and your little one.

Please bring a small blanket for your baby, and be sure to wear comfortable clothing.

Registration for this program opens May 1.

Itty-Bitty Art: Play

Infant Program

Play your way to new milestones in your baby’s first year! Bring your infant (up to 11 months) to the Amon Carter for an art-filled experience. Early childhood specialist, Audrey Rowland, leads an age-appropriate play session inspired by the Amon Carter’s collection.

In this session, discover what types of play infants enjoy, what types of materials extend play and curiosity, and the impact of play on brain development. You will also explore materials that are more valuable to play than the typical toys.

Meet at the Information Desk for a docent guided tour of With the Help of Friends. This exhibition celebrates fifteen dynamic photographs ranging from the 1930s to the present day that were selected and purchased over the recent years by the Amon Carter with the assistance of its photography collection supporters. No reservations required.

Trivia Night

Put on your thinking cap for an evening of trivia inspired by the Carter’s collection. Bring a group (up to six people per team) or come alone, and enjoy snacks, beer, and prizes during this friendly competition. Questions cover a wide range of topics—no art history degree required!
Participants in this program must be at least 18 years of age.

Reservations are required. Registration for this program opens May 1.
