Beverly Pepper’s Curvae in Curvae is the fourth installation of the Carter’s outdoor sculpture initiative, a program launched in 2022 to activate the Museum’s grounds.

American Modernism from the Charles Butt Collection is the first exhibition dedicated to the collection of Texas native Charles Butt and features works by American modernist icons including Romare Bearden, Edward Hopper, Joan Mitchell, Alice Neel, Georgia O’Keeffe, Alma Thomas, and Andrew Wyeth, many of which have never been on public view.

Ernest de Soto, Master Printer highlights the legacy of the first Latino master printer in the United States. Featuring 28 lithographs, this exhibition celebrates the collaborative art of lithography with work by de Soto and nine major artists he collaborated with during his time at the Tamarind Lithography Workshop.

Jean Shin is the next contemporary artist to transform the Museum’s first floor sloping gallery with a new site-specific commission. For her installation at the Carter, Shin will create a textile-based portrait of the Museum, through clothing items donated by the Carter’s employees and shape these elements into a large-scale wall mural with immersive hanging elements that will activate the gallery walls and ceiling.

On view for the first time since entering the Carter collection, Seven Days: The Still Lifes of Chuck Ramirez showcases Ramirez’s seven photographs depicting still-life scenes of food and leftovers after celebrations.

East of the Pacific: Making Histories of Asian American Art explores the artistic impact of the migration of people across the Pacific Ocean and their role in shaping American art and culture. The exhibition features artworks by over 32 Asian American artists that span from the mid-19th century through the present day.

Celebrating 40 years of Richard Avedon’s In the American West, the Carter is presenting 40 works from the series accompanied by behind-the-scenes archival material of Avedon’s acclaimed portraits.

Organized by the Carter, Classically Trained: The Gentlings and Music explores Scott and Stuart Gentling’s artistic engagement with the Age of Enlightenment, and features over 20 artworks by the Gentlings, including paintings, drawings, and music inspired by the intellectual and cultural ideals of this era.

Rufino Tamayo: Innovation and Experimentation presents the evolution of Tamayo’s artistic technique through his works on paper, experimenting with ways to add volume and texture to a traditionally two-dimensional medium.

Cowboy reexamines the popular mythologies surrounding the image and concept of the cowboy. Through the work of 28 artists, which includes Asian American, Black, Indigenous, and Latino perspectives, the exhibition explores perceptions of masculinity and gender, assumptions about cowboys’ relationship to land, and the lived experiences of contemporary cowboys.

Drawn from the Carter's collection, Richard Hunt: From Paper to Metal highlights the artist’s prints produced at the Tamarind Lithography Workshop in 1965 and a newly-acquired sculpture, Natural Form, created in Hunt’s signature direct-welded metal technique. 

Dario Robleto: The Signal highlights the artist’s multiyear exploration of the Golden Record, and features Robleto’s newly commissioned work Ancient Beacons Long for Notice, an immersive, 70-minute film based on a rare and forgotten document—the first audio recording of warfare—which was considered for inclusion on the Golden Record.

Organized by the Carter, Drawn to Nature highlights depictions of nature from the Carter’s works on paper holdings from the 18th through the 21st centuries.

As part of the Carter's outdoor sculpture program, Elizabeth Turk’s The Tipping Point: Echoes of Extinction comprises vertical sound sculptures of bird species that are endangered or extinct. Each work is a sculptural visualization of the call of a bird that has reached, or surpassed, a tipping point.

A multimedia examination of photographer and cinematographer Karl Struss, Moving Pictures: Karl Struss and the Rise of Hollywood celebrates his storied career and influence on American cinematography during Hollywood’s Golden Age.
