Ranches | Turkey Track, Tex. page 1 | 2 | 3 In 1880 J. G. Witherspoon established a ranch in what is now Foard County, on the rolling plains at the base of the Texas Panhandle. The Turkey Track was close to Smith's cousin's ED Ranch, and Smith spent time photographing at the Turkey Track in 1906. He found the ranch boss, Ed Bomar, a willing model for many of his studies.
