Meet at the special exhibition entrance for a guided of A New American Sculpture, 1914–1945: Lachaise, Laurent, Nadelman, and Zorach. This is the first exhibition to investigate the integral relationships between modernism, classicism, and popular imagery in the interwar sculpture of Gaston Lachaise, Robert Laurent, Elie Nadelman, and William Zorach. Assembled from public and private collections, this exhibition of approximately 55 sculptures and 20 drawings addresses the remarkable affinities between the work of four divergent and competitive personalities, who redefined sculpture's expressive potential during the turbulent interbellum period.

Tea and Tours provide a special opportunity for members and visitors to tour the Amon Carter’s collection with one of our expert docents, and then discuss the experience over tea and treats. Tea and Tours are held each Tuesday at 3 p.m. for three consecutive weeks. Reservations are required. Free for members; bring a guest for only $5. Artist Talk: James Surls

Artist Lecture

In conjunction with the special exhibitions A New American Sculpture, 1914—1945: Lachaise, Laurent, Nadelman, and Zorach and Commanding Space: Women Sculptors of Texas, James Surls will provide a public lecture in the Amon Carter’s auditorium. As a part of the Amon Carter’s ongoing exploration of the relationship between historic and contemporary art, Surls will speak about his work, how he started as a sculptor, and the process and materials he uses while displaying images of his work and process.
