Itty-Bitty Art: Music

Program for families with infants 0–11 months

Bring your baby (up to 11 months) to the Amon Carter for an art-filled experience! Engage with Jennifer DeSantis, early childhood music specialist, as she leads a developmentally appropriate session that includes music-making activities inspired by the museum’s collection.

Musical activities include creative movement, dancing, instrument play, and singing. Caregivers will learn to recognize early music behaviors such as singing and moving, as well as how to utilize music during daily rituals at home.

Please bring a small blanket for your baby, and be sure to wear comfortable clothing.

Registration for this program opens June 1.

Itty-Bitty Art: Play

Program for families with toddlers 12–24 months

Bring your young toddler (12 to 24 months) to the Amon Carter for an art-filled experience! Engage with Audrey Rowland, early childhood specialist, as she leads an age-appropriate play session inspired by the museum’s collection.

In this session, examine what types of play infants enjoy, what types of materials extend play and curiosity, and the impact of play on brain development. You will also explore materials that are more valuable to play than the typical toys.

Itty-Bitty Art: Movement

Program for families with toddlers 12–24 months

Bring your young toddler (12 to 24 months) to the Amon Carter for an art-filled experience! Engage with Taleisha Jones, an instructor at The Little Gym with a background in psychology and child development, as she leads an age-appropriate session that includes movement activities inspired by the museum’s collection.

This program’s curriculum is designed to help build the skills needed as children become mobile. It will focus on strengthening your child’s core to help with balance and stabilization and promoting inner ear development. While your child discovers new colors, movements, and sounds with fascination and joy, you’ll discover new smile muscles you never knew you had!

Children should be dressed in comfortable clothing (dresses are not ideal) for this program. Also, please bring a burp cloth or a blanket.

Lecture: Who is Dave Heath?

Guest curator lecture

In conjunction with the exhibition Multitude, Solitude: The Photographs of Dave Heath, explore the life and work of artist-photographer Dave Heath during this lecture by Keith Davis, Senior Curator of Photography at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Discover how Heath spent his life photographing people on the streets of Philadelphia, New York, San Francisco and elsewhere, drawing attention to a world framed by solitude, even amidst crowds, in search for human connection.

Storytime: Day and Night

Stories and artmaking for families with children 8 and under

Storytime is upside down and inside out at the Amon Carter as we explore opposites this summer! This week, visitors will focus on day and night when they bring their family to hear stories, look at artworks, and create their own works of art! Snacks will be provided.

During each Storytime, adults can register their participating children to win that week’s featured books. A drawing will be held after each program; those chosen will be contacted via phone or email.

Storytime is held every Wednesday, June 6 through July 25 (except on July 4), from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

This program is best for families with children ages eight and under and their adult companions. If you work for a summer school or day care, we offer a customized experience for your students on a different day. Please call 817.989.5036 or email schooltours@cartermuseum.org for more information.

The museum is unable to validate paid parking at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. Parking information.

Sharing the Past Through Art

Program for people with all stages of Alzheimer’s

Designed for adults with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, participants discuss artists, exhibitions, and themes and use artworks to connect to past experiences.

This program is offered on the second Thursday of every month.

There is a designated barrier-free entrance near accessible parking for vehicles displaying the appropriate disability permits on Lancaster Avenue (the museum’s south side).
