Itty-Bitty Art: Early Literacy

Young Toddler Program

Help your little one’s language skills grow! Bring your young toddler (ages 12–24 months) to the Amon Carter for an art-filled experience. Dr. James Thomas, early literacy consultant, will demonstrate age-appropriate literacy activities inspired by the museum’s collection.

Infancy is the time to begin with an awareness of language and books. During this program you will learn songs, how to share books, sign language, and ways to exercise with your little one to encourage language development.

Please bring a blanket to use during this program.

Book Club: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

Book discussion for adults

From the pages of a book to the silver screen, how did art shape the story behind the famous Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children? This spring’s book club features the popular novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. Author Ransom Riggs collects old photographs he finds at flea markets, which helped him create the characters and plot of this unusual story. John Rohrbach, Senior Curator of Photographs, will begin the evening with a short tour of the new photography exhibition With the Help of Friends. After the tour, we will discuss the themes of the book and how they connect to the works on view.

Refreshments will be provided after the discussion.

Copies of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children are available for sale in the Museum Store, online or on-site. All sales benefit the Amon Carter Museum of American Art.

Registration for this program opens February 1.
