Introduces the visual legacy of Black America through the African-American Collections at the Art Institute of Chicago. It covers a wide range of aesthetic movements, geographies, and styles with special emphasis on the Harlem Renaissance (1920-1940). Artists represented include Henry O. Tanner, Hale Woodruff, Aaron Douglas, Walter Ellison, Jacob Lawrence, Archibald Motley, Jr., Charles White, Elizabeth Catlett, Alma Thomas, Romare Bearden, Martin Puryear, and Kerry James Marshall.
