Operate the control room and provide security for the museum facilities, collection, visitors
and staff. Weekend responsibilities include providing supervision to Gallery Attendants and Loading Dock Officers posted in the museum.
Responsibilities
- Perform functions necessary to operate the control room (includes monitoring the facilities, personnel, visitors, fire and sprinkler system, weather alerts, security radio traffic, mechanical and security system alarms); dispatch personnel as necessary.
- Complete control room logs and records; verify by signature.
- Enforce compliance of security and emergency procedures using good judgment; control evacuation, all related security alarms, and fire suppression alarm situations.
- Appropriately respond to museum and outside law enforcement or fire/disaster officials in any event including emergency response or alarm situations; twenty- four hour call response required.
- Be advised of all ongoing special duties and events upon arriving for your shift which occurred in the previous shift or which may occur during your tour of duty. The officer is required to advise the relief officer of this information as the next tour of duty begins.
- Inspect premises and status of alarm equipment immediately after arrival; report problems and make written maintenance request to the Security Supervisor.
- Monitor art shipments and deliveries to the museum; complete art shipment log as instructed and maintain photocopies/databases of incoming and outgoing shipping manifests.
- Complete written reports on fire and safety hazards, theft, and other incidents for the security department to address.
- Conduct and record regular fire and safety hazard checks throughout the building during your shift; check humidity as instructed; report all equipment break down (plumbing, electrical, etc.); monitor the building for water leaks, sub-basement flooding, or other physical problems and .submit written report on any problem to the Facilities Manager or call/page in an emergency.
- Properly administer first aid and C.P.R. when necessary.
- Perform the duties of any shift necessary to maintain security.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Other duties as requested.
Qualifications
Education
• High school diploma; college degree preferred.
• Prior commissioned Texas DPS Private Security Bureau Level 3 and/or Basic Training Certification on Law Enforcement Standards (Texas) and/or Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) of Military Police or Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) required. A total of two years experience in one or more of the above fields is required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Commission from the Texas DPS Private Security Bureau Level 3.
• Experience in Security Control Room Operation preferred. Train/certify to operate control room during initial six months.
• Firearms training and experience required.
• Must be able to read and understand written security material.
Physical
• Must pass physical exam prior to offer of employment. All officers will be tested for stamina requirements prior to employment.
• Must be able to lift and carry two twenty-five pound fire extinguishers for a distance, and then operate one correctly.
• Good physical stamina; able to stand or patrol for twelve hours.
• Able to place a person of at least 100 pounds in a wheelchair.
• Must have 20/20 vision or vision corrected.
• Must be able to hear normal conversation; prosthetic acceptable.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, and work with hands above eye-level.
• Must be able to climb steep stairs and ladders (also vertical ladders).
• Must present a neat, clean, professional appearance.
Other
• Minimum two years commissioned security, full-time Texas law enforcement background or Active Duty military police/security background.
• Prior experience and/or certification as a Control Room Operator in a computer controlled security environment.
• Be proficient with security operating systems, including multiplexers, various types of fire systems, monitors, video recording equipment, radios, and alarm control systems.
• Be proficient with emergency response systems/operations, evacuation techniques, rescue from elevators, and use of fire extinguishers.
• No felony or criminal arrest and/or conviction involving moral turpitude for which a full pardon has not been granted.
• Valid drivers license; maintain safe driving record required.
• Must be responsible and flexible; able to take initiative, exercise good judgment, and follow instructions.
• Must be able to understand and follow chain of command.
• Must provide excellent customer service to patrons; able to respond to questions and to approach and advise visitors of gallery regulations in an effective yet pleasant manner.
• Ability to transmit clear messages via radio, intercom, and telephone.
• Must be available to work any shift necessary to support the security department’s needs (normal shift is 8 hrs.). Must respond to all requests to cover for sickness or absence for all shifts (if unable to cover, a valid excuse will be provided). When you will be absent due to a medical-related absence for which a doctor’s visit was necessary, a written/signed release from the doctor is required prior to returning to work. Any absence or denial to cover a shift must be reported to a Security Supervisor.

SECURITY CONTROL ROOM OPERATOR NEEDED.
