Admission to the permanent collection is free. All galleries offer barrier-free access.
Directions and Parking
Public transportation: The #7 bus travels from downtown, through the Cultural District, and south to the Fort Worth Zoo and Texas Christian University. The Trinity Railway Express travels between Fort Worth and Dallas.
Parking lots are on Camp Bowie Boulevard, on the north side of the building, and on Lancaster Avenue, south of the building. On evenings and weekends, parking is available at the University of North Texas Health Science Center east garage on the corner of Clifton Street and Camp Bowie Boulevard.
Inclement Weather Policy
The museum closes for inclement weather if the Fort Worth Independent School District cancels classes. Visit www.fortworthisd.org to learn about the status of FWISD classes.
Accessibility
The Carter has accessible parking and a barrier-free entrance on Lancaster Avenue. Wheelchairs and assistive listening devices are available for use while at the museum.
Things to Know When Visiting the Carter
- All bags and purses brought into the museum are subject to search.
- All backpacks and bags are subject to search. Bags 11-by-15 inches or larger must be checked; lockers are available in the coat-check area.
- Still photography in existing light in the permanent collection galleries is permitted for personal, non-commercial use. A photography permit is available at the information desk. Tripods, flash, and movie and video cameras are prohibited.
- Please keep children under the age of three in a stroller; strollers are available at the coat check. Children should be accompanied by an adult.
- For the safety of the art, please keep at least a twelve-inch distance from the artwork.
