The Basics |
|||||
| Cowboy clothing consisted of a long-sleeved cotton or wool shirt and work pants. Most shirts of the day had a separate collar that buttoned to the shirt, but cowhands usually wore their shirts collarless to save time and trouble. Work shirts did not have pockets, so cowhands wore vests with plenty of pockets to carry personal items and gear on the trail. Cowhands’ work pants or britches were brown jeans rather than blue, and they were called Levis because they came from Levi Strauss, the first jeans manufacturer. | ![]() Erwin E.
