Saddle Bags

Saddle bags were placed on the front of the saddle near the pommel (pommel bags) or on the rear of the horse (cantle bags). A cowboy usually packed his personal belongings in a sack, which he called his “war-bag” or “war-sack,” and was separate from the saddle bag.
