| Cowboys usually had two kinds of jackets: one that was warm and one that served as a rain slicker. Both were split up the back so that they could go over the saddle and the horse’s hind quarters. Cowhands referred to their oil skin slickers as “fish,” because the Fish brand was the most popular. When not being worn, the slicker was stashed in a roll behind the saddle. | ![]() Erwin E.
